After 12, the sun reaches its highest point in our homeland. It takes us back to our innocent childhood summers. Full of light and afternoon naughtiness. They had the smell of nature. Fertile soil and loaded trees. They dived in the sea and played tag in the centuries-old olive groves. These afternoons nurtured the dream in us. To cultivate the land that gave us birth. To embrace the trees and their fruits with respect. That is how MESIMERI came to be. Extra virgin olive oil.

The first golden drop on the bread. Flavored with tomato leaves,
fresh grass, the leaves of olive trees, herbs and nuts.
Being with friends and in wicker hats around a table.
And smiley pictures
Extra virgin olive oil pure and genuine, just like the land of Messinia
that has been giving birth to it for 4.500 years.

“Inside trees bathing in the sun and fruits, it matured along with us. The dream of a summer afternoon which you are now holding”. Our connection with the land. The images of its traditional cultivation. They planted in us all its qualitative and emotional values. They kept them alive until an extra virgin olive oil was created. Fruity, bitter, spicy. With tomato leaf aroma, freshly-cut grass, olive tree leaves, herbs and nuts. MESIMERI is our poem, which we want to be recited in the kitchens of the world.

Kostas Spyropoulos and Angeliki Markopoulou are the initiators of Mesimeri.A chemical engineer and a graduate of French language and literature, with a common life, have returned to their land. They brought together their inherent love for it with the memories and the flavours. They brought in a fresh approach to, and knowledge of, trees and fruits and created something more than an excellent olive oil. They created an idea. The unique experience of the Greek summer afternoon – the Greek mesimeri. It starts from the extra virgin olive oil and reaches as far as the Mediterranean sun.
A group, a mixture of the scent of watered soil, political science, the science of wine making, chemistry, business administration, gastronomy, photography, literature and design. Different people came together by the enthusiasm for the idea of Mesimeri. Its journey from the family farms in the small village of Paniperi to the dishes of Greece and the world.

Our olive trees grow and thrive in the most natural way, as they have done for centuries. With the long lasting Mediterranean sunshine, the mild wet winters and hot dry summers of the local micro climate. We follow an environmentally friendly cultivation process through all the stages. Without interventions and use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Only with organic fertilization and spraying. MESIMERI is a true, pure, virgin olive oil.

Every November, the harvest is the celebration of the summer afternoon – the mesimeri. The fruity trees are calling us, people everywhere, spread olive nets, branches that are shaken with care to avoid damaging the crop. The olives are harvested from the trees and in a few hours they are squeezed by cold pressing. Without waiting. Keeping their low acidity, taste, fragrances, colour and nutrients intact.

MESIMERI was awarded the GOLD AWARD in the Quality Awards category in the international competition: Canada International Olive Oil Competition 2021.
Olive trees under the abundant Greek light extract fresh olive juice in a natural way. Some of them being centuries old. These trees, around which we hid during our childhood summers, are the ones we grow, look after and prun. One by one. With a local approach and limited production, we create a premium olive oil. The limited number of production and our principle for every harvest not to exceed 3 tons, give MESIMERI the value of a delicacy.

Paniperi is our home. It is to the olive-growing hills overlooking the Messinian Bay that we returned after years. In the family fields that extend to South-West Messinia, under the abundant Mediterranean light, we let memories and ideas go free. Influenced by the ‘Farm to Table’ philosophy, we grow their precious trees and harvest their fruits. Creating land products. Their name, the Greek word ‘afternoon’, evokes our childhood summers in the fields.
The trees and fruits of Mesimeri are produced in Messinia. Messinia is located south western Greece with a glorious past of 4,500 years. Always fertile, it was conquered and enslaved by the nearby Spartans who exploited its fruits for military reasons. Over the centuries Messinian land remains the land of fruits and their juices, therapeutic herbs, olive oil and wine. It is inhabited by people who grow up with the products it bears and who learn to respect the miracle of fertility that is happening on this land.It is with the same respect that they cultivate it without destroying it. It is with the same respect that they share its products with their friends around the table on a Sunday. The products of Messinia and its “wet gold”, as its olive oil was described by Homer, are on the shelves of large markets in the world with a protected designation of origin. In Messinia you will find the village of Paniperi, a village full of greenery, high up on the mountain, which, as can be seen from its name (pano = over + iper = and above), overlooks the Messinian bay.In this small village of 270 inhabitants, extra virgin olive oil is produced, pure and unspoilt, just like the land producing it.
